D. Colley is a CAD Designer and an AIDT certified Pipe Fitter, with extensive experience in architectural, civil, electrical and piping designs. Interview with Mr. N. Felix

1. What kinds of clients do you serve?

   I serve many types of clients, including medical, consumer products, machinery and furniture.

2. What was the most interesting CAD project that you ever worked on? What made it interesting?
   What challenges did you face?

   I love working with medical devices and products because I know eventually it might save someones life.

3. Of the software tools that you use, which is your favorite and why?

   Autodesk Inventor, because it is easy to use and produces great quality work.

4. What trends are you observing in the market for CAD services?
   How have these trends affected you, and how are you responding to them?

   More and more, customers are looking for renderings of their products. The more realistic, the better. I took it upon myself to learn 3d rendering.

5. What do you like about working as an interim CAD draftsman or external CAD consultant working on a time-bound project?

   I get lost in all my projects and time just flies when I am working on a CAD project.

6. Have you ever provided CAD consulting services remotely, either via phone, the Web or email?
   Do you use any screen sharing tools (like Webex, Skype, or GoToMeeting), and are they effective?
   What kinds of questions and problems could you tackle remotely?
   Are there any issues that you feel are better handled face-to-face?

   I have had video conference calls with customers for clarifications.

O. Shilovitsky has been building software products for data management, engineering and manufacturing for the last 20 years. He has also served as an Autodesk reseller, focusing on application development, customer implementations, pre-sale and training. He holds a PhD in CAD Systems from the Moscow Civil Engineering Institute and a MSc in Computer Systems for Industries a Polytechnic Institute in Russia.

V. Gradinaru is employed as Assistant Researcher at INMA Bucharest in 2009. She finished the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Faculty of Biotechnical Systems Engineering, studied in the field of environmental engineering and mechanics. She has experience in design using Autocad (5 years), AutoCAD Mechanical (3 years), Autodesk Inventor (4 years) SolidWorks (5 years).

T. Makris is a product designer for playground equipment, sports facilities and sheet metal machining. He has designed numerous new products, mainly playground equipment, and is an expert in the programming of CNC wood machines (5-axis and 3-axis). He has also been active in education after having worked with an AutoDESK authorized training center, teaching engineers and students how to use programs such as AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. He also provides sheet metal design and CNC programming for sheet metal manufacturing. Mr. Makris is a graduate of the Department of Industrial Design of the Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia. He also has a master’s degree in “Advanced Industrial Manufacturing Systems’ from Kingston University in partnership with the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus.

R. Harvey is an expert in Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks and Pro-E.

Sulskis has been working since 2001 on CAD-based projects. He is a qualified mechanical engineer with a master’s degree from Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania.
Mr. A. Sulskis has extensive experience in SolidWork, including 3D modeling of plastic parts, metal parts. He also provides surface modeling services and FEM analysis. He has worked for over fifteen years for a company that develops and produces devices for electricity measurement and control applied in residential, commercial and industrial sectors. He works on electronics and electrical product designs. He designs for small companies who do not have their own mechanical engineer.
He has designed plastic cases (produced by injection molding), enclosures for electronic and electric devices and product conceptual designs. He feels that the most interesting project that he has worked on was creating a finger print access control with touchscreen panel. It represented the latest equipment and technology, and was something new for him. The challenge was to make the device compact and attractive to the consumer.

He is skilled at creating 2D drawings, 3D models and renderings. His passion is aviation and he has an abiding interest in 3D modeling of aircrafts and sailplanes. He has specialized in aviation components, electrical designs, fixtures and furniture designs, machine designs, construction and industrial designs.

He works mainly on SolidWorks because he finds it suitable for modeling, drawing and rendering. He is also competent in AutoCAD, Autodesk Fusion 360 (for 3D), Bentley MicroStation (for 2D and 3D designing), DraftSight for (2D design and drafting), KeyShot (for 3D rendering), Onshape and Parasolid.
Mr. Sulskis enjoys working on time-bound projects as he likes to find the best technical solution and implement it.

He uses e-mail or Skype to provide CAD consulting services to clients located overseas.

M. Sivakumar is a mechanical designer of tool, dies, jigs an fixtures). He is an expert in Autocad and Autodesk Inventor. He is associate Member of Institution of engineers (India). He is trained in tool and die designing by NTTF, and received a degree in computer applications from Anna University.

M. Waqas works primarily in Pro Engineer, Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA and Solid edge.

S. Kumar has more than 11 years of CAD experience in mechanical, telecom and piping. He specializes in Autocad and 3DS Max. He has obtained professional and associate certification from Autodesk for AutoCAD 2010.

M. Majid provides 3d architectural renderings (stills), animations and elevation designs for offices, hospitals, commercial buildings, universities and housings schemes in Vray, Mental Ray and Scanline (interior and exterior). He works on Autodesk 3d Studio Max (Vray, Mental Ray and Scanline), Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk AutoCAD and Ulead Media Studio.

G. Briller is an independent mechanical engineer. He provides 3D modeling services in Solidworks and Autodesk Inventor and supports clients from the concept stage through design and to manufacturing. Mr. Briller also provides mechanical analysis services.
