Structural drawings are generally prepared by registered professional structural engineers, and informed by architectural drawings. They are primarily concerned with the load-carrying members of a structure. They do not address architectural details like surface finishes, partition walls, or mechanical systems.

Main Types of Civil & Structural Drawings
• Excavation & Foundation Plans: Show soil cutting, footing dimensions, pile caps, and ground bearing capacity.
• Column & Beam Layouts: Detail the placement, size, span distances, and stirrup reinforcement for plinth, floor, lintel, and roof beams.
• Slab Reinforcement Plans: Display top/bottom rebar placement, chair spacing, slab thickness, and crank details.
• Cross-Sections & Elevations: Illustrate vertical load paths, floor-to-floor heights, staircases, and concrete-to-steel connections.
• Civil / Site Drawings: Map out external site grading, property boundaries, and drainage systems.
Key Components of the Drawings
• Title Block: Found in the bottom right corner; lists the project name, drawing number, scale, date, and engineer stamps.
• General Notes: Outlines design codes (such as IS 456:2000 for concrete), concrete mix grades, rebar types, curing time, and lap lengths.
• Grid Lines & Dimensions: Coordinates column and wall positions using alphanumeric grid references.
• Bill of Materials (BOM) / Schedules: Lists steel reinforcement bar (rebar) sizes, bending shapes, quantities, and concrete volumes.
