Elevation Drawings and Section Drawings are used by builders to construct a building, such as a house, office building or factory. Elevation plans are scaled drawings which show all four sides of building with all perspective flattened. Builders use elevation plans to visualize the finished structure will look and the materials used. They also provide information about the elevation of the ground on the various faces of the home. For the local planning department, they will need these drawings to insure that the local building code is being adhered to.
A ‘section drawing’, ‘section’ or ‘sectional drawing’ shows a view of a structure as though part of it has been slice off, usually vertically or horizontally, providing a view through the spaces and surrounding structures. Plan drawings (floor plans) are in fact a type of section drawing (cut on a horizontal plane).
